Direct Access Training

If you are over the age of 21 you can take a Direct Access test which means that you can ride any size bike after you have passed.

Because you are aiming for big bikes, you will test and train on a 500cc bike.

The test is carried out by the Driving Standards Agency and takes about 45 minutes. The examiner will follow you on another bike, or sometimes in a car and check that you are safe. You will have to do a U turn and an emergency stop.

We can train you up for this test as well as provide you with a 500CC bike and helmet. All you need is a licence, CBT certificate and have passed the theory test.

Direct Access is done on a one to one or one to two basis. We will never take more than two students out at a time.

We have found that a day rate is by far the best way of doing this course as it ensures that you have as much training as you need, but if you are experienced, or just a quick learner it will save you money!

We can book you a test or you can book your own. This keeps us flexible.

See our link to the DSA website for more info on tests, to book a test and also theory tests.

If you are under 21, or if you only want to ride medium size bikes, you can take the same test on a 125cc bike. Your full licence will allow you to ride up to 36 horse power bikes (about 400cc). After two years your licence will become unrestricted.

Anyone who wants to do a full test must do a theory test first.
